چکیده

Although diverse, theories of visual attention generally share the notion that attention is controlled by some combination of three distinct strategies: (1) exogenous cueing from locallycontrasting primitive visual features, such as abrupt onsets or color singletons (e.g., Itti & Koch, 2001); (2) endogenous gain modulation of exogenous activations, used to guide attention to task relevant features (e.g., Navalpakkam & Itti, 2005; Wolfe, 1994); and (3) endogenous prediction of likely locations of interest, based on task and scene gist (e.g., Torralba, Oliva, Catelhano, & Henderson, 2006). Because these strategies can make conflicting suggestions, theories posit arbitration and combination rules. We propose an alternative conceptualization consisting of a single unified mechanism that is controlled along two dimensions: the degree of task focus, and the spatial scale of operation. Previously proposed strategies—and their combinations—can be viewed as instances of this mechanism. Our theory offers a means of integrating data from a wide range of attentional phenomena. More importantly, the theory yields an unusual perspective on attention that places a fundamental emphasis on the role of experience and task-related knowledge.

The Endogenous or Exogenous Nature of Money Supply: Case of Iran

This paper investigates the endogenous money supply hypothesis in Iran. To this end, we attempt to find causality directions between bank credits and money aggregates. Utilizing Diks and Panchenko’s (2006) nonparametric Granger causality test for the time series data over the period 2006:04-2018:12 confirms the existence of a significant causality running from bank credits to money aggregates. ...

Role of Endogenous Development in Informal Habitation: An Analytical Study

Today, most of the big cities or metropolises around the world have been encountering with the problem of informal habitation. The present study, thus, tries to focus on the role of endogenous development in such type of habitation process. For that matter, the paper takes into account architectural programming and urbanism as its theoretical framework because the endogenous development is rela...

Reward can modulate attentional capture, independent of top-down set

The traditional distinction between exogenous and endogenous attentional control has recently been enriched with an additional mode of control, termed "selection history." Recent findings have indicated, for instance, that previously rewarded or punished stimuli capture more attention than their physical attributes would predict. As such, the value that is associated with certain stimuli modula...

A review of Attentional Capture: On its automaticity and sensitivity to endogenous control

It is well known that irrelevant stimuli can control where we attend. However, in the literature about the so-called attentional capture phenomenon, there has been a great deal of discussion about the extent to which such effects are automatic or rather modulated by endogenous factors. The present article reviews data and theory related to this debate. Although both exogenous and endogenous fac...
